For the separation of large molecules silica gels are used with wide pores (150-300A and more). In this area, the use of irregular silica gel is disadvantageous due to the reduced mechanical stability.
The use of spherical silica gel brings significant advantages.
In particular, the higher compared to wide-pore silica gels commercially available specific surface area leads to more surface area per unit volume, which has a beneficial effect on the separation.
These silicas are available with hydrophobic surface modification (C18, others) on request.
